Catch 22 for Approval Workflow in SharePoint Designer

–I began blogging on this, and found someone else’s blogpost from Dec 2010 who also blogged on this exact topic.  Though I never saw his blog post prior to writing this, credit to Lars Nielson.  I ran into an interesting dilemma while working on my most recent project.  The project involved a number of document libraries that required content approval as well as versioning. The scope of work greatly limited… Read More »Catch 22 for Approval Workflow in SharePoint Designer

F5 redirecting SharePoint sites from HTTP to HTTPS

So I am setting up a standard 5 server SharePoint 2010 farm (2WFE, 1 App, 2 Clustered DB Servers) for a client.  The client is giving me the minimal security permissions for setup and installation, so my troubleshooting options are limited. I have the farm setup and Central Admin running, so today I created the first web app and site collection.  To my dismay, I was unable to open the… Read More »F5 redirecting SharePoint sites from HTTP to HTTPS

Combine Multiple Libraries into a Single DVWP

I was working on a Document Center today in SharePoint 2010, and needed to create a web part that will show a rolled up view of multiple document libraries in the same site collection.  The following steps outline how to accomplish this: You will need to open up SharePoint designer and navigate to the page in which you want the web part to reside. First go to datasources in the… Read More »Combine Multiple Libraries into a Single DVWP

SharePoint 2010 Lookup Column in Document Information Panel

So came across a scenario this week where I needed to display a lookup column from a SharePoint 2010 document library in the Document Information Panel in Word and allow access to the object via Quick Parts and not Custom Document Properties.  I created the columns and associated them with the SharePoint List/Content Types and they were available in the DIP.  Easy enough. Not quite, as mentioned in this blog post from… Read More »SharePoint 2010 Lookup Column in Document Information Panel

Coexistence of Exchange 2003 and 2010

I give full credit for finally getting this to work to this Blog.  In my test environment I have an Exchange 2003 server, an Exchange 2010 CAS/Hub Transport, and an Exchange 2010 DB server. I have migrated some users to 2010, but most are still on 2003.  I have made the CAS the entry point into the Exchange environment via mail.domain.com.  I have kept the legacy OWA URL as webmail.domain.com. To… Read More »Coexistence of Exchange 2003 and 2010

Office 2007 Documents extremely slow to open from SharePoint 2007

We have had an issue popping up lately where documents were loading extremely slowly when we open them from SharePoint. We did some digging and found a few things, but issue ended up being relatively simple and we confirmed a number of times that the problem was fixed. Turns out the issue is not Office or SharePoint, but IE. Go into Tools->Internet Options->Connections->LAN Settings and uncheck Automatically detect settings. This… Read More »Office 2007 Documents extremely slow to open from SharePoint 2007

Outlook Junk Mail Filter through Group Policy

A quick fix to provide a safe senders list to an organization through group policy and outlook settings. I am running a Windows Server 2003 domain, a mix of Windows XP – Windows 7, and Office 2007. I had an issue where certain emails from a specific domain periodically go to users’ junkmail. Here are the steps to publish a safe senders list through group policy. The first two steps… Read More »Outlook Junk Mail Filter through Group Policy

Multiple Login Prompts when Logging into SharePoint from Vista or Windows 7

I have finally been able to put this issue at rest. It is actually a rather simple fix. On the client machine the MOSS url needs to be added to local intranet security settings in IE. At least each subdomain that will be accessed. The easier way would be to add http://*.domain.com. The second piece is a registry modification. The issue occurs because of the way Vista and 7 handle… Read More »Multiple Login Prompts when Logging into SharePoint from Vista or Windows 7
